Wessage Rider

This blog is dedicated to all western riders, hoping to bring together a group of people that love to train their horses using classical dressage methods. It is beautiful to watch a correctly trained western horse, on the bit and on the aids, being ridden and put through their paces. There is a huge difference in most of today's western pleasure trained show horses. They seem to be behind the bit, totally false gaits, no expression and just downright pitiful. Pitiful to watch them go around the ring, also. I am truly hoping to start a new discipline that we can show our wessage horses in. Similar to dressage shows, but western. Make champions out of the horses, people and trainers out there, that care enough, to train them correctly. It is pretty scary to get on a horse that has been trained with drawreins and is behind the bit. You have no control of this horse at all. They do not know how to accept contact and from there, and they cannot use their selves properly. It is about time to reward those who love to see things done for the good of the horse. That is what I hope to bring forward with this website. I hope we can all brainstorm and put together a great program for the happy future of our western horses. I think this would get alot more people out there showing their western horses, too. I know so many people stopped showing because they would not do the things needed, to get today's show ring western look. So I say: No more drawreins, no more hock hobbles, no more tying their heads around or down or what ever they may do to get that "look". Please join us as we put the fun back in riding and showing western. Discover the harmonious relationship you will have with your horse when you really train them instead of forcing them by those aforementioned gimmicks. I am hoping to set up a discipline to reward the western horse and rider the same way that the dressage horse and rider meet their goals. We could use the same tests or alter them a bit for the western horse. I would love to hear from interested people, who are ready to put together a western dressage program/discipline. Lets see if we can get this going!
